Kefalonia island

Kefalonia, located exactly in the middle of the Ionian Sea in Greece, is the largest and probably the most beautiful of the Ionian Islands that also has a great history. According to the 2011 census, the island’s population is 35,000 inhabitants. Kefalonia is the sixth in size amongst the Greek islands; Argostoli is the capital and the largest city of Kefalonia while the second largest city is Lixouri.

The island has incredible natural beauty, and the tourism has not changed the character of the island to a minimum. There is an abundance of accommodation in Kefalonia, for unforgettable holidays; rentals with affordable prices, apartments, luxurious villas, resorts and 5-star hotels.

Kefalonia’s beaches are amongst the best in Greece. The visitor will find wonderful beaches in the villages Fiskardo,  Assos, Sami, Poros, Skala, Agia Efimia, Xi and of course the world famous Myrtos beach.

Kefalonia is also an excellent destination for nature lovers and sightseeing, as in the island there is the black spruce, a special kind of fir that grows only in the Ainos Mountain, wild horses that can be seen on the slopes of Ainos and amazing paths in lush landscapes.

The demanding visitor will also find in Kefalonia all sorts of cultural activities, namely tours to important archaeological sites and museums, rare natural phenomena (i.e lake caves etc).

The travelers who want to visit Kefalonia can do so either by air (since there is an international airport in Kefalonia, with frequent flights) or by taking the ferry boat or the ship, either from the ports of Patras, Ithaki or Kyllini.
